THE MINISTRY OF THE GATEKEEPER
The ministry of the gatekeeper is an unknown ministry for its assignment is misunderstood and mostly close to those of the intercessor, the watchman and the priest or levite of the old testament. Today, the Lord is reviving this ministry by placing that call on the shoulder of many Christians. But how could most Christians answer it if they don’t really know what it is? Its assignment and functions today?
By nature the ministry of gatekeeper is primarily both an intercessory ministry and a prophetic ministry. It requires prophetic insight to see things in the spirit, prophesy, intercede and see them happen in the natural realm, prevent, or cancel their bad effects.
The true nature, the assignment, responsibilities, and functions of the gatekeeper are seen in the old and new Testaments.
Who are the gatekeepers?
Gatekeepers were called and chosen by God, set apart and appointed to serve Him, His house and fulfill the purposes of the kingdom of God. They were guards stationed for the protection of the temple gates, palace gates and city gates. They controlled the entrance and the exit of the gates and blow an alert or a warning when there is a danger they see coming. There were gatekeepers at the national and international or global levels. They were in charge of the treasuries of the House of God and over the treasuries of the dedicated things ( 1 Chronicles 26: 20).
1 Chronicles 9:17-27 “…22 All those chosen as gatekeepers were two hundreds and twelve….David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office. 23 So they and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord , the house of tabernacle, by assignment. 24 the gatekeepers were assignment to the four directions: east, west, north, and south… 27 And they lodged all around the house of God because they had the responsibilities , and they were in charge of opening it every morning.”
The books of Ezra 2:42 and Nehemiah 7:1-3 talk about the gatekeepers as well.
What is the spiritual authority of the gatekeeper today?
The gatekeeper’s anointing comes from the rock (Jesus) and one of his spiritual symbol is the rock. gatekeepers are breakers ( as they open up the ways) of obstacles, builders and protector of the Church against the attacks of the enemy as they are made to win battles.
In the new testament, Matthew 16:18-19 “ 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven , and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
The levite or priest gatekeeper, through his priesthood and prophetic anointing, has access to the doors of the throne of grace and can win cases brought before the Lord (the Lamb) in the court of heaven by doing intercessory prayers and proclaiming prophetic words.
Hebrew 4:16 “ Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.”
Note: It takes to the gatekeeper to have the seer anointing to see deeply in the spiritual realm to win battles, declare decrees to cancel the work of the enemy and prophesy to see the fulfillment of the will of God on earth.
What are the ministries similar but not equal to the ministry of the gatekeeper?
The ministry of the watchman, the ministry of the intercessor and the priesthood ministry.
The call to the watchman ministry:
Ezekiel 3: 17-22 “ 17 Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from my mouth and give them warning from Me… 26 I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and not be one to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. 27 But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, Thus said the Lord God. He who hear , let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house ”
The call to the intercessory ministry:
Ezekiel 22:30 “ So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one”
The call to the priesthood ministry paired with an intercessory gift:
Hebrew 5:1-3 “ 1 For every high priest taken from among the men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God , that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. 3 because of this he is required as for the people , so also for himself , to offer sacrifices for sins.”
The principle of the clean hands requiring a life of sanctification to intercede effectively and successfully for others and oneself is mentioned in the previous Scripture.
Hebrew 5:4-11 ” 4 And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was. 5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High priest, but to was he who said to Him: … 6 You are my priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek… 10 Called by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek…”
What is a practical example of a prophet prophesying and exercising gatekeeper’s authority over nations in the bible?
Prophet Jeremiah, a prophet to the nations, prophesied over more than 20 nations as he was given the mandate and the power to open up the gates for the judgement of God on nations. He declared what should enter and exit the gates of nations according to the will of God.
Jeremiah 25: 15-38 “ 15 For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me: “ take this wine cup of fury from my hand , and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it… 17 Then I took the cup from the Lord’s hand , and made all the nations drink , to whom the Lord sent me…”
